On reflection of my favourite travel experiences of 2023, Hobbiton springs to mind as one of the top. It may be inconveniently located on the other side of the world (if you’re in Ireland atleast), however if you do find yourself in Kiwi country at any stage, you need to incorporate a trip to Hobbiton along the way.

Hobbiton, nestled in the lush landscapes of Matamata on New Zealand’s North Island, is a cinematic marvel that brings J.R.R. Tolkien’s vision to life. Established as a movie set for “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” film trilogies, Hobbiton has evolved into a permanent attraction that captures the essence of the Shire.
